The idea of keeping silent in modern times comes largely from British Traditional Wicca. In the BTW descended practices, initiates take an oath forbidding them to speak about the secrets of their tradition. Oathbound materials have made their way into the mainstream in various forms, ranging from highly adulterated to nearly purely as taught in the mystery schools.
The British Traditional Wiccans picked up the phrase from the Rosicrucians, a 17th century fraternal order of mystics, magicians and dabblers in the occult.
Some people believe that in order for magick to work, the practitioner must keep silent after the working. They say that to continue to think or speak of the working is to continue to manipulate the energies around it, therefore altering it. (1.)
I left 'Keep Silent' out of the title for this blog, because, well, it's a blog. There wouldn't be much here if I kept silent. Not to fear, I don't plan to discuss in detail the works that I do, nor do I intend to hand out the equivalent of magical hand grenades; instead, my intent is to provide reviews of various books on Pagan/Neo-Pagan and Magickal topics, discuss subjects within Paganism and the alternative religious community and talk about philosophy.
I hope that you'll comment, discuss and engage here with me. I'm looking forward to the journey!
